Hey, Good Looking!

If you are like me, with each passing year, you notice a little gray here and a little wrinkle there. Your eyelashes have moved on and dark circles and puffy bags have shown up like a flashing sign saying, “YOU ARE OLD!!” The problem is I don’t feel old. I’m 47 and I have an almost 7 year old boy, so I can’t break out the rocking chair and knitting needles, nor do I want to.

So when my hair started getting noticeably gray I headed for the salon or in a pinch the grocery store for a box. I thought I should start covering up all those flashing signs of aging. The hair was easy to fix. But what about the wrinkles and lack of eyelashes? I wasn’t sure what to do. I didn’t want to look old but there it was staring back at me every morning. I have never worn a lot of makeup but I’ve tried a gazillion different products from $1 grocery store eyeliner to high dollar creams from specialty shops. I eventually accumulated a good sized collection of creams and serums, color palettes and brushes and most of them were only used a few times.

Then I came across Cindy Joseph. She was a huge inspiration. Viewing her YouTube videos I noticed not only was she beautiful with her gray hair and pink lips but she also exhibited a bubbly, joyful, and playful personality. Someone you would want to hang out with. Cindy became a model at 49, the same day she had cut off the last of her dyed hair and sported completely gray locks. Having a made a career as a makeup artist she knew a thing or two about cosmetics and developed her own line called BOOM! and started a “pro-age revolution.”

Only recently, did I discover that Cindy passed away in July after a private battle with cancer. I was so, so very saddened. However, her story, her message and her products will go on and I know her legacy will help women feel stronger, more confident and more beautiful as each year passes.

Not long after I found Cindy, I stopped coloring my hair and I have to tell you, I love it! I have received many compliments and although I’m sure it makes me look older, it has not only saved me time and money, it has brought me freedom!

After I solved my hair situation, I was ready to declutter my drawers of beauty products and make some changes. I tossed everything that I was no longer using or was expired and ordered my first BOOM! products.

My favorite is the BOOMSILK moisturizer. Its made for your face and body and with only a handful of ingredients: Purified water, organic extra virgin olive oil, beeswax with propolis and pollen, raw Pupekea wildflower honey, and d-alpha Vit E. Compare those with what is on the label of your current moisturizer. It is surprising. Here is a short video that explains some of those scary chemicals packed inside most of our cosmetics.

Another favorite is BOOMSTICK Color. It’s a lipstick, blush, and eyeshadow, in one stick and its made for all skin tones. I love to keep this in my purse because I can touch up my makeup without needing a mirror.

Now I needed a really good mascara since, as I mentioned, my eyelashes have thinned out considerably. I discovered Thrive Causemetics through an add on Facebook. Their products are vegan, 100% cruelty free and made without the use of parabens or sulfates and for each product purchased, they donate a product to help a woman experiencing cancer, homelessness or domestic violence. I tried their Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara and loved it so much I also tried the Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner, which comes with a built in sharpener and smudge tip and the Triple Threat Color Stick that is similar to the BOOM! Colorstick. Each purchase has also come with a bonus makeup bag.

All in all these products have saved me time in the morning and space in my cabinet. Additionally, I feel better knowing I’m putting better quality products on my skin and helping out a good cause at the same time. They are more expensive than grocery store cosmetics but I figure since I only use a handful of quality products versus a bunch of cheap ones it evens out.

The products mentioned above are products that I have purchased with my own money. I am not getting paid to advertise. I really love these products and believe in the message BOOM! and Thrive Causemetics promote. That being said, I encourage you to do your own research on products you wish to purchase and make sure they are right for you.

I hope this has been helpful and I’d love to know if you all have discovered any quality beauty products. I’m still looking for a good foundation!

Until next time, embrace your beauty whatever your age and ….Be Well!

  1. This is so beautiful – so heartfelt and I so agree with you – what is there to hide? We don’t feel shame to turn 12 from 10 or 21 from 19 — why feel it when we grow older? It is a blessing from the universe to live and share. I so, so, so connect and relate to what you say here! Thanks so much Lori for coming by my blog too – feel grateful to be here. Wish you a wondrous day! 🙂

    1. Thank you for kind words. So glad you can relate. As we age we have do have so much to share as we have walked many miles! Thanks for visiting and sharing your thoughts. A wondrous day to you as well.

  2. Mimi

You said you tried both the BOOMSTICK color stick and the Thrive Triple Threat color stick. I’m wondering which you like better? Can you give insight into comparing these two very similar products? Thank you.

    1. Hi Mimi. Thanks for your question. It’s hard to say which one I like better. I really do like them both. The Thrive Color Stick is available in 4 colors and the Boomstick only has one. The Thrive product is much dryer than the Boom! product so I don’t like it as much for my lips but it seems to last longer on my cheeks than the Boomstick Color. I use the Thrive Color Stick when I get ready in the mornings and keep the Boomstick in my purse to touch up my cheeks and lips. Plus, it’s easy to put on without a mirror if needed. I guess if I had to pick one I would pick the Boomstick because I use it on both cheeks and lips. The Boomstick Glimmer is a nice too for some added sparkle! Hope this helps you.

      Be well,
